Where Airalo eSIM works — and what to expect in different regions
Global Coverage Overview
Airalo offers eSIM plans for over 190 countries and territories worldwide. Coverage quality varies significantly by region, reflecting the maturity of local mobile infrastructure and the strength of Airalo's network partnerships in each market.
UK-Specific Considerations
As a UK-based traveller, your primary use case for Airalo is connectivity abroad — Airalo does not offer UK domestic plans. Your UK SIM (EE, Vodafone, O2, Three, etc.) handles domestic calls, SMS, and data. The Airalo eSIM supplements this with affordable international data.
UK travellers should note the following local nuances:
- Post-Brexit roaming: UK networks no longer guarantee free EU roaming. Airalo European plans are often more cost-effective than paying roaming charges to your UK provider.
- Dual SIM management: Most modern UK flagship phones support dual SIM (physical + eSIM). Budget phones may not. Verify before purchasing.
- Currency: Airalo prices in USD. Use a fee-free card (Monzo, Revolut, Starling) to avoid FX charges.
- VAT: Airalo may apply VAT to UK purchases depending on their current tax registration status. Check your invoice.
- Consumer rights: Purchases made via Airalo are subject to their terms of service, not UK consumer law directly. Disputes should be raised with Airalo first, then via your card provider's chargeback process if unresolved.
- OFCOM regulations: Airalo is not regulated by OFCOM as it is not a UK-licensed operator. It operates as a global eSIM marketplace.
- Emergency calls: Do not rely on an Airalo eSIM for emergency calls abroad. Use your primary SIM or local emergency numbers.
- Device unlock: UK network-locked devices require unlocking before eSIM from another provider can be installed. This is a free service from UK operators after the minimum contract period.
