Real accounts from UK travellers who used Airalo eSIM
The following reviews were submitted by readers of AiralSim. They reflect individual experiences and are published unedited (except for profanity removal). Experiences vary by destination, device, and plan type.
East London • Japan trip, 14 days
"I was sceptical about eSIMs before this trip — I'd always used a local SIM from the airport. But the Airalo process was genuinely straightforward. I bought a 5 GB Japan plan two days before departure, scanned the QR code at home, and it connected the moment I landed at Narita. The speed was excellent — I was streaming maps and video calls without issue. The only thing I'd flag is that you need to make sure data roaming is enabled on the eSIM line specifically, not just globally. Took me 20 minutes to figure that out."

Manchester • Europe multi-city, 3 weeks
"Used the Europe regional plan for a trip covering France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Worked perfectly in all four countries — no switching, no fuss. I gave it four stars rather than five because the data ran out faster than expected (I was using Google Maps constantly), and the top-up process required purchasing a whole new plan rather than just adding data. That said, the second plan was easy to install alongside the first. Would definitely use again."

Bristol • Thailand & Vietnam, 4 weeks
"Bought separate local plans for Thailand and Vietnam rather than a regional plan — worked out cheaper per GB. Both activated instantly. Vietnam coverage was slightly patchy in rural areas north of Hanoi, but in cities it was 4G throughout. The Airalo app is well designed and makes managing multiple eSIMs easy. I've now used Airalo on five trips and it's become my default approach for international data."

Edinburgh • USA business trip, 10 days
"The US plan worked well in New York and Chicago. I deducted a star because the plan I chose didn't support hotspot, which I only discovered after purchasing — I needed to tether my laptop for a client presentation. Lesson learned: always check tethering permissions before buying. The data itself was fast and reliable, and the price was about a third of what my O2 roaming add-on would have cost."
Plan: USA 5 GB / 15 days | Device: iPhone 13
Leeds • Australia, 3 weeks
"Mixed experience. The eSIM activated fine and coverage in Sydney and Melbourne was good. However, in regional Queensland the signal was very weak — I later found out the plan used a network with limited rural coverage. The Airalo support team were helpful when I contacted them, but couldn't do anything about the coverage gap. If you're travelling outside major Australian cities, research which network the plan uses before buying."
Plan: Australia 10 GB / 30 days | Device: OnePlus 11
London • India trip, 3 weeks
"Excellent experience using Airalo for India. I was worried about compatibility with my older Pixel 4a, but it worked perfectly. The India plan gave me fast 4G in Delhi, Mumbai, and Jaipur. I used about 8 GB over three weeks — mostly maps, messaging, and occasional video calls. The price was unbeatable compared to roaming. I've recommended AiralSim's guide to several friends who are now regular Airalo users."

Complaints & Escalation Process
If you have a negative experience with Airalo, here is the recommended escalation path:
- In-app chat: Contact Airalo support via the app's live chat. Describe the issue clearly, including your order number, device model, and the specific problem. Most issues are resolved at this stage.
- Email support: If chat does not resolve the issue, send a formal email to Airalo's support address (found in the app). Include screenshots, your order confirmation, and a clear description of the problem and desired resolution.
- Chargeback: If Airalo fails to resolve a legitimate billing dispute within 14 days, contact your card provider to initiate a chargeback. Provide all correspondence with Airalo as evidence.
- Consumer advice: UK residents can seek advice from Citizens Advice or the European Consumer Centre (for cross-border disputes) if the matter remains unresolved.
Response times: In-app chat typically responds within 10 minutes. Email support within 1–3 business days. Chargeback resolution typically takes 30–45 days.
